The best time to resurface a fiberglass pool is fall, September through November in most of our 16 states. The work happens after swim season ends, the fresh gel coat gets months of undisturbed cure time, and the pool opens in spring looking factory-new. Spring is the second-best window; mid-summer is the one to avoid if you can.

Why Fall Wins
- Zero opportunity cost. The pool was about to sit unused for months anyway. A 5-10 day project in October costs you nothing; the same project in June costs you the best weeks of the year.
- Ideal cure conditions. Fresh gel coat cures to full hardness over weeks. A fall application gets a long, calm off-season to finish curing before the surface sees daily swimmers, and moderate fall temperatures are friendlier to spray application than July heat.
- Winter damage gets pre-empted. Most freeze-season cracking starts in surfaces that are already compromised, oxidized, cracked, or blistered shells let water in exactly where ice can work on it. Going into winter with a sound new surface (and a proper closing) breaks that cycle.
- Better scheduling, better attention. Fall routes have the most open slots, which means you pick dates instead of taking what's left.
When Not to Wait for Fall
Seasonal strategy is for surfaces that are failing slowly. Three situations shouldn't wait:
- The pool is losing real water. A leak undermines backfill around the shell every week it runs, do the bucket test and get it found now, whatever the month.
- A wall is bulging or moving. That's structural, and structural problems compound.
